It is a cultural practice during the month of Ramadan for us to invite friends and colleagues to SCDF to share a hearty meal in the evenings. The month of Ramadan is a season of giving, much like Christmas or Thanksgiving. It is a cultural tradition for Turkish people to share food, friendship and good cheer with their neighbors throughout Ramadan. We

acknowledge our friends' and colleagues' continued support of our programs and mission through sharing these complimentary Turkish meals with the community.

Kurban Bayrami "Festival of Sacrifice"

"Festival of Sacrifice" is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God (Allah),before God(Allah) intervened to provide him with a sheep— to sacrifice instead. This year (November 5, 2011) in the day of this festival, we celebrated the festival organizing a picnic in Columbia, Sesquicentennial park.  Turkish people as well as American friends got together with this wonderful and restful picnic.
